GMAT stands for Graduate Management Admission Test.
The GMAT exam is a standardized assessment, delivered in English, that helps business schools assess the qualifications of applicants for advanced study in business and management. Over 2,100 graduate business schools around the world use GMAT scores as a part of their admissions process.
Most GMAT test takers start preparing about 3 to 6 months before the actual test date.
The GMAT exam measures basic verbal, mathematical, and analytical writing skills that you have developed in your education and work and your test is valid for five years. The tests cost $250, regardless of whether you take it in the U.S. or not.
The GMAT exam is a computer adaptive test, which means that the candidate will get one question at a time and depending on the accuracy of the previous answer, the difficulty level of the next question will be ascertained. The average scores required for universities abroad varies; top-tier universities require at least 710 out of 800, while middle-tier universities accept 600 or more.
Latest Update about GMAT from 2018 onwards :
GMAC, the body that conducts GMAT has shortened the exam by 30 minutes w.e.f 16 April 2018. The new exam will be of 3.5 hours including test instructions and breaks. The Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative sections are shortened by 13 and 10 minutes respectively. The Integrated Reasoning and Analytical Writing Assessment along with the Score Preview and the optional break time will remain the same. These changes will not have any impact on scoring in the shortened Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative sections as only the unscored items have been removed by the GMAC.
Preparing for the GMAT
The GMAT measures skills developed over time, so cramming for the test is not likely to increase a student’s score. However, AptiGuide has developed a program, that will help the students to prepare for the Exam effectively. It is very important for the students to take the Practice tests and review the exam prep guidelines. Since there is a significant penalty for not completing a section of GMAT, so it is important to develop the pacing skills. All of these have been taken care of in the program developed by AptiGuide, which makes it one of the GMAT Institute.
