Psychology at DU is now one of the most competitive programmes — higher cutoffs than most Science and Commerce courses at the same colleges. Here is how to navigate the CSAS form.
Psychology is an Arts programme — scores are out of 1000 (normalised composite). The cutoffs have risen sharply since 2023.
DU considers the best 4 subject scores, maximum 1000. Every CUET subject — Language, Domain (including Psychology), and the General Test — carries exactly 250 marks (50 questions × 5 marks each). The composite normalised score out of 1000 is used for merit lists. Psychology as a CUET subject significantly improves your priority score for this programme. If you didn't take Psychology in CUET, check if your subject combination qualifies for the programme.
Ranked by General category cutoff. Most Psychology colleges at DU are women-only. The programme is offered across fewer colleges than Economics or English — fill every eligible preference.

Source: LSR cutoff (926.53) from official DU CSAS 2025 data. College list verified against official DU CSAS 2025 allotment data — Miranda House and Maitreyi College do NOT offer BA (Hons) Psychology; they have been removed. Vivekananda College added as confirmed Psychology college. All non-LSR scores are trend-based estimates from 2023–25 patterns. Verify all on ugadmission.uod.ac.in. W = Women's college only.
Almost all DU colleges offering BA (Hons) Psychology are women-only. The co-ed options that do offer Psychology are extremely limited. If you are a male student looking for BA Psychology at DU, your realistic options are very narrow. Consider also looking at Hansraj College (BA Programme with Psychology combination), or universities beyond DU — including BHU Varanasi, University of Hyderabad, Jamia, and Panjab University Chandigarh (BA Psychology at PU is merit/percentage-based — apply directly to PU colleges; no entrance test required).
Psychology is one of the few programmes where the preference order is even more critical — fewer colleges means mistakes are harder to recover from.
If you're a woman, every women's college offering Psychology is a separate seat pool. LSR, Jesus and Mary College, Gargi, Indraprastha, Kamala Nehru, Daulat Ram, Vivekananda, Shyama Prasad Mukherji, Mata Sundari, Aditi Mahavidyalaya, and Institute of Home Economics — list all of them in cutoff order. Each one is an additional chance.
Even if your score is at the edge of 926. The system will only allot you LSR if you qualify. Listing it first costs nothing. Students who list a lower-ranked college first and qualified for LSR have missed the better seat.
If your score falls below all Hons Psychology cutoffs, add BA Programme combinations with Psychology as a subject. Colleges like Hindu, Hansraj, Ramjas offer BA Programme where you can keep Psychology as one of your subjects — the degree is different but the subject depth is real.
Psychology seats are limited. If you get Gargi in Round 1 and want LSR, click Accept + Upgrade — don't float. Floating means risking Gargi without being considered for Round 2 at higher preferences.
This is not a consolation programme. It is one of the fastest-growing career pathways in India — and the most misunderstood one in counselling conversations.
Requires MA + MPhil/PhD (RCI registration). Takes 6–8 years from BA. Rising demand for mental health professionals in India. NIMHANS, TISS, and Christ University are strong PG pathways.
Corporate HR, talent management, L&D roles. MBA in HR from strong B-Schools is the most common pathway. DU Psychology is viewed very favourably for these MBA programmes.
One of the most in-demand roles in tech. Psychology background directly applicable to user research, cognitive load analysis, and usability testing. Upskill with Google UX Design Certificate or Nielsen Norman Group.
School counsellor roles expanding rapidly post-NEP 2020. Requires BA + MA in Counselling Psychology or Guidance & Counselling. Government school counsellor salaries are PGT-level.
PhD → teaching and research. Competitive but stable. TISS, JNU, NIMHANS are top destinations for Psychology research in India. NET qualification required for lecturer roles.
Psychology's second-most common corporate application after HR. Consumer insight teams at FMCG companies, digital agencies, and market research firms actively hire Psychology graduates.
If DU Psychology doesn't convert — these are not backup options. Some are genuinely stronger for clinical and research tracks.
Psychology department with strong clinical focus. Merit list based. Lower competition than DU top colleges. Delhi location means similar exposure.
One of the strongest Psychology departments in India. Academically rigorous. CUET score accepted. Research-heavy environment. Excellent for those targeting PhD or clinical track.
Respected Psychology department with central university status. CUET score accepted. Significantly lower cutoffs than DU. Good PG pathway for clinical roles.
Excellent Psychology programme with industry linkages for organisational and counselling tracks. Private fees apply. Accepts CUET. Strong for UX Research and I/O Psychology pathways.
Pune has a growing mental health ecosystem. Fergusson's Psychology programme feeds into Pune-based counselling and HR roles. CUET score via Savitribai Phule Pune University route.
BA Psychology at PU is merit/percentage-based — no entrance test. PUCET is only for BSc (science) programmes at PU. For BA Psychology, you apply directly to PU and its affiliated colleges after Class 12 results. If you're from Punjab or Chandigarh, this is an accessible and credible option with a strong Psychology department.
Psychology at DU is now one of the most competitive Arts programmes, with LSR's 2025 cutoff at 926.53, nearly as high as BA Political Science at Hindu College (950.58). Demand has risen sharply since 2023 as students recognise Psychology as a genuine career pathway rather than a fallback subject.
Almost all DU colleges offering BA Hons Psychology are women-only, so realistic options are narrow for male students. Alternatives include Hansraj College's BA Programme with a Psychology combination, or BHU, University of Hyderabad, Jamia Millia Islamia, and Panjab University Chandigarh.
BA (3 years), then MA (2 years), then MPhil or PhD (2-5 years) with RCI registration to practice, meaning most students start practicing around age 26-28. This is not a reason to avoid the field, but students should go in aware of the timeline.
UX Research, organisational psychology and HR, counselling and school psychology, research and academia, and marketing and consumer behaviour roles. UX Research and organisational psychology currently pay the highest, ranging from 6-22 LPA depending on role and experience.
The Rehabilitation Council of India regulates who can practice as a Clinical Psychologist in India. The specific degree name matters, an MA in Counselling from an unrecognised private university does not qualify a graduate to practice. Verify RCI recognition before choosing a postgraduate programme.
Yes, several are not backup options but genuinely stronger for specific tracks. University of Hyderabad and BHU are strong for research and clinical tracks, Christ University Bangalore for UX Research and organisational psychology, Jamia for clinical focus, and Panjab University for merit-based admission with no entrance test.
Your score, category, and career direction determine which pathway makes the most sense. A 45-minute session covers your full preference list and what comes next after the degree.
